With 2014 having come to an end, I thought it would be nice to review the trends that the fashion world experienced over the course of this year.
Firstly, halter tops made a huge statement in 2014, wether dressed up or down, on tops or on dresses. Halter tops were not only seen on the streets and worn by celebrities, but also on the runway. The trend was worn in tops and dresses, and whilst making a appearance in the high fashion world, halter tops were quickly produced by more affordable brands, causing them to be a wardrobe staple piece.
As seen on Kim Kardashian, the halter trend was easily integrated in a simple yet stylish dress, making an ideal red carpet look. Kendall Jenner and Selena Gomez also wore the trend on the red carpet with simple high waister pants, allowing the halter top to be the outfit’s statement piece. Finally, the trend was worn on the streets for a simple, yet stylish look, generally with a pair of high waisted bottoms, as seen on Hailey Baldwin.
Calvin Klein underwear also became a huge trend throughout 2014 with their huge marketing technique of using #myclavins on social medias. Their trendy yet minimalistic underwear was seen on a variety of celebrities, fashion bloggers and in their ad campaigns, resulting in it becoming a must have.
Whilst the #mycalvins ad campaigns featured model Lara Stone, the main reason the fashion world became so obsessed with the product was due to the number of celebrities who promoted the underwear on their social medias. Model Kendall Jenner and fashion blogger Chiara Ferragni amongst others such as Gigi Hadid, Vanessa Hudgens and Iggy Azalea were just some of the icons to have sported the product.
Although the Celine Luggage Handbag first became a huge hit in 2012 when it was released, the bag still had everyone head over heels in 2014, making it one of the most sought after accessories this year.
The handbag, which comes in two sizes and a huge color variety can be worn any time of year, casually, as seen on Julianne Hough as well as more formally, as seen on Kylie Jenner and Chiara Ferragni, leaving the fashion industry obsessed with it.
Boyfriend jeans became a huge trend globally in 2014, becoming the it-style when it comes to jeans, wether worn casually or formally. These jeans made a statement, mainly on the streets when worn by celebrties.
Generally, boyfriend jeans were seen paired with a simple top, as done by Miley Cyrus and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. By wearing the jeans with a plain white crop top, both of their outfits were kept relatively casual. Nicole Richie and Miranda Kerr, on the other hand made their outifits slightly more dressy by pairing them with point toe flats and heels, in Miranda’s case a Blazar, and in Nicole’s case a long, silk jacket and a black clutch. The versatility and cut of these jeans had everyone in love with them in 2014.
Finally, mesh was another huge red carpet and street style trend of the year. Wether in tops or dresses, this style could be worn in almost any way. Mesh first became big with the introduction of designer products such as the Alexander Wang “Parental Advisory” Sweater, leading to its mass production and trendiness.
Mesh was worn on the red carpet, as seen on Kendall Jenner at the 2014 VMA’s. Mesh tops were also seen on the street by Gigi Hadid, Jessica Alba and Khloe Kardashian, and Rihanna, who wore a mesh two-piece, creating a statement look.
Lots of Love,
